Best Free Budgeting Apps (2026)

Compare free budgeting apps for 2026 — Rocket Money, EveryDollar, and when YNAB or Monarch are worth paying for. Includes Cashly Prime calculators.

Updated Nov 1, 2026Free · No account required

If your paycheck disappears before the month ends, a budgeting app can help — but you do not need to pay for one on day one. This guide focuses on useful free options, what you actually get without upgrading, and when a paid app earns its keep. Prices and free-tier features change; confirm on each app’s site before you commit.

Start with the math you already have. Before you link every bank account to an app, run your take-home pay through Cashly Prime’s free 50/30/20 budget calculator and paycheck calculator. Knowing needs vs. wants makes any app more useful.

Best truly free starting points

1. Rocket Money (free tier)

Rocket Money’s free plan is one of the strongest “no card required” options for people whose leak is forgotten subscriptions. You can link accounts, see categorized spending, and surface recurring charges. Premium adds bill negotiation, unlimited budgets, and extra automation — worth it only if those features save more than they cost.

Pair it with StopScribe when you need the exact cancel path for a service Rocket Money flags.

2. EveryDollar (free)

EveryDollar’s free tier is built for zero-based budgeting with manual entry. That sounds like work, but typing transactions for a month teaches habits bank-sync apps hide. Upgrade mainly if you want automatic imports.

3. Cashly Prime calculators (always free)

Not a full budgeting suite — and that is the point. Use it when you need a clear answer without creating an account:

When paid apps are worth trying

YNAB shines if you overspend even when income is fine — its zero-based method forces a plan before the money leaves. Try the 34-day trial; skip it if you will not open the app weekly.

Monarch is strongest for couples or households that want one shared dashboard (investments, net worth, joint goals) without Mint’s old limitations. There is no lasting free tier — only a short trial.

Affiliate placeholders (not live yet)

TipsClips does not have affiliate accounts yet. The boxes below are clear placeholders so the layout is ready when Corey signs up. Do not treat the “Join” buttons as tracked affiliate links.

Programs Corey would need to join (we did not sign up)

  • Rocket Money Affiliates — hosted on Impact. Start at rocketmoney.com/affiliates, create an Impact publisher account, then apply to the Rocket Money program in the marketplace.
  • YNAB Affiliates — invite-only. Use the YNAB partnerships form or email [email protected] (per YNAB’s site). Typical public listings cite ~$6 per trial signup.
  • Monarch Affiliates — commonly listed on Impact. Create/log into Impact and search “Monarch” to apply. No separate public apply URL was reliably available without an Impact login.

Optional free-tier budgeting mention (usually not high-paying affiliate): EveryDollar — check Ramsey/EveryDollar partner pages if you want a free zero-based option in the mix.
